Exit Doors and Paths of Travel

If exit doors and paths of travel are noted on your occupancy certificate, you will need to ensure inspections are conducted in line with the National Construction Code’s (NCC) requirements. Dandenong Fire Equipment Maintenance can conduct these inspections for you.

You will often hear the term “Means of Egress” which refers to the way and ability for occupants to exit a building.  It covers, but is not limited to the following :

  • paths of travel to exits,
  • discharge from exits,
  • exit doors other than smoke or fire doors, and
  • operation of door latch.

Exit doors and paths of travel inspection must be conducted in terms of NCC section D, with specific reference to D1.6, D1.10 and D2.20. Inspections are required every three months.
