Fire Resistant Materials
Materials and Non-Combustibles
Commercial sites are made from many different materials both internally and externally. They also have fixtures and fitting such as wall and floor coverings. Under current National Construction Code requirement, all of these must be fire rated to ensure the safety of the building occupants.
These are often know as :
- material and assemblies required to have fire hazard properties, and
- elements required to be non-combustible.
In general, they are also referred to as materials indices and non-combustibles, with the “materials” part being your internal fittings and “non-combustibles” meaning elements the building is constructed of, both internal and external. Examples of both of these elements are plasterboard, ceiling panels, steel beams, external cladding and associated fire proofing (such as the fire proofing material fixed to the beam in the photo to the right).
